Confingo is recruiting three emerging writers for a new book, Brutalist Ghost Stories. This is an anthology of short, uncanny fiction. We have commissioned 13 stories - each of which is set in or inspired by a UK brutalist landmark - from professional authors. Three additional stories will be commissioned from three emerging writers, one from each of the following areas:​

• Blackpool

• Middlesbrough

• Rochdale​

These placements will match writers at an early stage in their careers with an experienced editor who will provide dedicated mentoring and editorial guidance tailored to their needs and abilities. Their work will feature in Brutalist Ghost Stories alongside professional peers, giving them a unique experience in terms of career progression, developing their confidence and making valuable contacts. The successful applicant will be paid for their writing in line with their more established peers, and will also be financially supported to attend and perform at the launch event. These are paid mentoring and training opportunities aimed at early-stage writers aged 18+ who are interested in developing their short fiction - and are funded by Arts Council England. The closing date for submissions is 31st January 2025.
